Subject:         Call for ACICS Commissioners

The ACICS Nominating Committee is receiving applications for the position of ACICS commissioner on the Council.  ACICS commissioners also serve as members of the Board of Directors.  There will be four (4) positions on the Council to be filled for the five (5) year term commencing January 1, 2014.  Two (2) positions will be representatives of ACICS accredited institutions elected by the membership, and two will be appointed by the Council and may be representatives of accredited institutions or public representatives.  Public representatives are persons who are interested in career education; have knowledge or experience useful to the accreditation process; and are willing to contribute opinions, advice, and expertise to the endeavors of ACICS. The public representative cannot be involved or affiliated in any way with an ACICS accredited institution or one that has applied for ACICS accreditation.  More details on these restrictions applied to the public representative positions are set forth in Article I of the ACICS Bylaws which can be found at in the Accreditation Criteria under the Accreditation dropdown tab.

Diversity in various respects is important to the Council.  The Council seeks commissioners with educational administrative experience as well as commissioners with current academic experience. In addition, diversity in areas such as size of institution represented, geographical location, gender, and ethnicity is desirable.

It is an honor to be chosen to serve as an ACICS commissioner, but it comes with significant commitment. A commissioner must attend three full week accreditation business meetings each year, in April, August, and December.  In addition, there is a two-day policy meeting in January or February.  From time to time, a commissioner may be called upon to make a special visit to one of our member institutions or to serve on a special advisory committee. Travel expenses incurred by commissioners on ACICS business are reimbursed

If you are interested in serving on the Council, please complete the online application at by no later than July 21, 2013.  Also, if you know of someone who might be interested and qualified to be a commissioner but would not have received this message, please pass the message along.  The ACICS Nominating Committee will meet in early August and respond to applicants following that meeting. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at
or 202-336-6778.
