From the President

The challenge of meeting the expectations of the Council and the community about the effectiveness of ACICS-accredited institutions remains a top priority. Whether the college or school has just received a new grant, is in the middle of the accreditation cycle or is preparing for a comprehensive site visit, institutional effectiveness as measured by the submission of required, annual performance data drives periodic evaluation by the Council, and shapes the credibility and value of colleges and schools with the broader community.

The 2013 annual Campus Accountability Report (CAR) submittal is a moment to demonstrate compliance or excellence in supporting student success. It also represents an opportunity to not only convey numeric measures of school performance, but also provide the Council all of the information it needs to make informed decisions about how the institution is performing and what leadership is doing to correct any performance issues. Narratives and evidence that explain any mitigating circumstances contributing to performance issues should be prepared now and submitted by November 1, along with the numeric CAR data. And be sure to attend the session on CAR/Placement at the ACICS Annual Conference.

Commissioner Election Set

The expiration of terms for two commissioners at the end of this year creates openings for new representation on the Council by member colleges and schools. An on-line election to fill the slots is scheduled for October 14 through October 18, 2013. Candidates for the two, five-year terms are Julie Blake, Eagle Gate College vs. Monica Foote, Long Island Business Institute, for one school member seat, and Gladys Flecha, Humacao Community College, vs. Miguel Rivera, Dewey University, for the second school member seat. Only designated delegates of member institutions are eligible to cast ballots. More information about the election is posted on the ACICS Web site.

Registration Fee Reduced for Annual Conference

ACICS has reduced the registration fee for the 2013 Annual Conference at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort in Jacksonville, Florida to $650 (hotel not included). The new fee applies to all registrations. "On behalf of the ACICS Board, I am pleased that we can offer a lower registration fee to help our colleges and schools," said Al Gray, President. "The 2013 Conference is filled with substantial workshops, topical guest speakers and the opportunity to meet other leaders and professionals in the career education sector. We encourage all member institutions to consider participating in this important conference." Individuals who registered at the higher rates automatically will receive refunds for the difference directly from ACICS; no request for refunds is required.
