From the President

Demand by students and institutions for education programs that acknowledge and evaluate the acquisition of competencies has gained profile in the post-secondary education community, the policy community and the accreditation community. The Council reviewed a comprehensive set of standards for the direct assessment of competency-based programs at its August meeting, including commentary from the field and other stakeholders. The revised standards, first presented in the May 2014 Memo to the Field, will be published in September along with other changes in policy under consideration by the Council. Following the distribution of the memo, ACICS will host an AWARE webinar, September 15 at 2:00 pm, to provide member institutions an opportunity to review the material with ACICS staff and ask questions. The next memo will also include the latest iteration of the proposed education abroad standards, creating greater structure and guidance for institutions interested in offering study abroad activities under the ACICS grant of accreditation.

Albert C. Gray, Ph.D.
