From the President

The President's Town Hall meeting held at the Annual Conference this past November was an excellent opportunity for members to query commissioners and ACICS senior staff on their issues of concern. One of the issues raised by members during the Town Hall meeting was a change to the formula used by ACICS in calculating student retention rates at the program level for the required annual Campus Accountability Report (CAR). The new program retention formula, revised for the 2014 CAR, recognizes transfer of a student from one program to another program at the same campus. This modification to the CAR protocol was questioned by several campus officials and discussed by the Council. After careful review, the Council decided to retain the new formula going forward, and to provide a one-year grace period for programs negatively impacted by the change. (2014 CAR Notification)

More information on the revisions by Council to the review of 2014 CAR data will be provided in the next Memo To The Field, including clarity about when a program or campus is considered out of compliance based on CAR data; when performance improvement plans are required for campuses and programs; and the review of CAR reports for integrity and accuracy.

In coming editions of Standards Century, ACICS will respond to other issues raised by members, one at a time, for the benefit of all. The on-going dialogue generated by member inquiries and discussion is valuable.
