Accreditation Alert: Definition of Placement

June 23, 2015

As you may be aware the Department of Education is becoming increasingly engaged in the issue of placement of graduates and completers. Focus on the placement matter is being seen in school program reviews and other activities of the Department. Recently an institution was fined by the Department for not disclosing how their reported placement results were defined and calculated. Their accreditor did not have a standing definition of placement to which the institution could refer. ACICS does have such a definition. You can access the ACICS definition of placement and calculation formula from our home page at www.acics.org. It is advised that ACICS member institutions place the definition of placement on your websites, or link the URL for the ACICS definition on your websites, so that it is clear to all interested parties how your placement results are defined and how your placement rate is calculated. ACICS institutions strive for high levels of student achievement through a comprehensive definition of placement with a well-defined rate calculation formula. It is in your best interest to prominently disclose that fact.
