Senator Jimmy Higdon named KACCS 2015 Legislator of the Year

Senator Jimmy Higdon Congratulations to Kentucky Senator Jimmy Higdon on receiving the Kentucky Association of Career Colleges and Schools (KACCS) 2015 Legislator of the Year award. Serving on the Education Committee and Licensing and Occupations Committee, Senator Higdon is well-informed of the issues facing career education. He worked with KACCS to amend a House bill to include nationally accredited programs in recognition for licensing of drug and alcohol counselors. The bill was passed and signed by the governor with the amendment intact.

Senator Higdon received the Joe Kelly Award from the Kentucky Board of Education in 2003 and the Kentucky School Board Association's Kids First Award in 2008. He has sponsored a number of education bills including one that goes into effect this school year. Senator Higdon was also responsible for crafting the compromise that helped pass the bill raising the drop-out age to 18.
